what is Orthognathic surgery?

Orthognathic surgery is planned jaw surgery in conjunction with braces to correct skeletal discrepancies.  

do i need jaw surgery?

Orthognathic surgery is best suited for patient’s with skeletal imbalances such as underbites, overbites, deep bites and open bites that cannot be addressed with appliances alone. It can also correct facial asymmetries and aesthetic concerns. 

Do I need braces to have jaw surgery?

Yes, this is a planned surgery between your orthodontist and oral surgeon.  You need to have braces on for the surgery to take place.  Braces are placed several months before the surgery and removed several months after.
